OmCasablanca
Casablanca is Morocco's largest city and economic capital, a cosmopolitan metropolis of 4 million people on the Atlantic coast, 240 km north of Marrakech. While the city is often overlooked in favour of Morocco's imperial cities, Casablanca rewards visitors with its extraordinary architectural heritage — a unique collection of Mauresque (Franco-Moroccan) and Art Deco buildings that earned it the label 'Art Deco Capital of Africa'. The Casablanca Corniche, stretching along the Atlantic, offers a very different Morocco from anything experienced inland.
The Hassan II Mosque, completed in 1993, is one of the largest mosques in the world and the only one in Morocco open to non-Muslim visitors. Built partially over the Atlantic Ocean, it can hold 105,000 worshippers and its minaret at 210 metres is the world's tallest. The mosque is an extraordinary work of modern Moroccan craftsmanship, with intricate zellij tilework, carved cedar wood, and an electronically-retractable roof. Guided tours run daily (except Fridays).
