Even for visitors with no intention of summiting Toubkal, Imlil's dramatic setting — surrounded by apple orchards, walnut trees, and sheer Atlas peaks — makes it one of the most rewarding day trips from Marrakech.
The village itself is a living example of Berber mountain culture, with traditional flat-roofed stone houses, mule tracks connecting terraced fields, and a warm community accustomed to welcoming hikers. The iconic Kasbah du Toubkal, a converted Berber chieftain's kasbah perched above the village, offers one of Morocco's most memorable settings for lunch or an overnight stay. Shorter walks from Imlil into the surrounding valleys — including Aroumd and Azzaden — are suitable for families and non-trekkers.
