에 대해Fes

Fes is Morocco's spiritual and intellectual capital, with a UNESCO-listed medina (Fes el-Bali) that is considered the world's largest car-free urban area and one of the best-preserved medieval cities on Earth. Founded in the 9th century, Fes was for centuries the political capital of Morocco and home to the Al-Qarawiyyin mosque and university, founded in 859 AD and recognised as the oldest continuously operating university in the world.

The medina of Fes el-Bali is a sensory maze of 9,400 streets and alleys, each dedicated to a specific craft or trade. The Chouara Tannery, where leather has been dyed using centuries-old natural methods since the 11th century, is the city's most iconic sight — best viewed from the surrounding terraces of the leather merchants above. The Bou Inania Madrasa, the al-Attarine Madrasa, and the Nejjarine Museum of Wooden Arts & Crafts represent the pinnacle of Islamic architectural decoration in Morocco.

KechGo offers private transfers from Marrakech to Fes, a journey of approximately 7 hours. We recommend breaking the journey with a stop in Ifrane ('Little Switzerland') or Azrou for lunch. Alternatively, KechGo offers one-way transfers forming part of a Morocco circuit — Marrakech → Fes → Chefchaouen is a classic itinerary.

여행 팁:Fes

  • Hire a licensed official guide for at least half a day — the Fes medina is genuinely disorienting and a guide adds enormous context
  • Visit the Chouara Tannery in the morning when the dye vats are most active and colourful; the smell is intense — shops provide sprigs of mint
  • The Palais Jamai hotel terrace and the Borj Nord fort both offer elevated views over the medina — worth seeking out
  • Allow at least 2 full days in Fes; the city rewards slow exploration and rushing it is a common regret among visitors
  • Negotiate taxis in advance or use the Careem app — Fes petit taxis have fixed zones and meters but knowing the fare avoids confusion

Must-see sights include the Chouara Tannery, Bou Inania Madrasa, Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque, Nejjarine Fountain and Museum, the blue-tiled Dar Batha Museum, and the city gates (Bab Bou Jeloud).
